Oakland Cemetery

Back to Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta again this year. I was fortunate to explore a new area of this Victorian gem on the Summer Solstice, listening to the docent tell stories of Atlanta's criminal past. Honestly, the mix of shadows and light in 820nm weaved its own curious, dreamy tale. The sun was smiling on me that day.

  • Love all of these, but my favs are the two with the stark contrast of the black (the statue in the lily pads) and the bench. Just gorgeous!
  • I keep coming back to this page too--these are so delightfully dramatic. The way you capture the scale of everything from the tiniest gravestone to the tallest towering tree (and the clouds!) it's that wonderful eye of your at its best again :)And if statuary is the only way I get to see figurative work, I'll take it.
    • Thanks Damon! The statue here is a bit of whimsy, isnt it? I love it against that crazy tree and black water. I think cemeteries are really becoming my favorite location.
  • There's something about graveyards isn't there? And for me black and white is the only way to get macabre beauty. Some parts I was taken back to your civil war and again the path . I must have a thang about paths 🙂
    • Lol. I love them. They really are becoming my favorite location. I thought a lot about this  comment and our chat over the weekend. I have some editing ideas for the higher wavelength IR I'm going to try this week to push the aesthetics of the black and white. We'll see how that turns out.  And yes, paths are very cool. Symbolic in many ways. :)
