"Dreamy" is right--wow! I remember asking a drawing teacher I liked about putting things in the middle of a composition. Like, why wouldn't I just always do that? He said that sometimes, that was the right move. But that viewers would "quickly consume" an image that lived largely in the middle of a composition. His words stuck with me, and ever since then I think of the composition as the viewer's invitation to spend some time letting their eye meander around an image. Your description of Shibui made me think of it. Understated and simple...but not quickly consumed! Because there's more depth and complexity to be had there if you look. Like looking at the night sky--the longer you look the more you see. Damon
