Rain in Some Ways

Back home in the desert, monsoon season is well under way.

July has been a tough month. Lots going on, sort of feels like a grind and not enough time for photography or writing. Life has been a lot like the weather here - intense heat, clouds, some lightning here and there....and rain. Literally, and in the poetic proverbial ways too.

I think sadness gets weirder as you get older. It seems less harsh and superficial. Maybe softer and more melancholy. Shifting. Deeper. I guess age has a way of tapping into the strata of ennui, grief, and glum we carry our entire lives. Once we realize it's happening, it's too late to dodge it. It's true we're sometimes forced to ride a torrent of crap down a mountain of trauma. But more often, I find myself sitting idly in a puddle, drenched with skepticism, waiting for inspiration to come along and kick me out of the muck.

But also like the weather, sadness is fleeting. It's transition. Rain is a good sign. It purges the atmosphere. It's a salve. It reminds us that we're still human. It reminds us that we're capable and resilient. It reminds us to look for the sun.

So, I quit my July doldrums today and went looking for the sun before the evening monsoons began their August march through the valley. I even have photos in 820nm to prove it. Lol

I hope you found some light today in your part of the world, too. Don't let the rain get you down. Hugs to you all. xo
